Floating Candle Centerpieces

For many brides, floating candle centerpieces and floating candles in general are very popular these days because they are simple, tasteful, and inexpensive. When a younger couple gets married, the first thing they want to know when planning a big wedding is, how much is it going to cost me? With floating centerpieces, it’s so easy that you can make them yourselves and never have to worry about whether or not they are going to look nice or if someone is going to be allergic to your flowers that are hanging in their face or even if it is too expensive. You don’t even have to be creative to be able to make these simple centerpieces because they pretty much create themselves. Here are some simple ways to create a stunning centerpiece using floating candles.

There are a range of both high-end and cheap floating candles out there that are perfect for any occasion. The most common ones are white or cream color and are round. There are many that you can get including floating rose candles or even hibiscus if you are choosing to have a tropical wedding. Pick which candle is best for your needs and get as many as you need for your tables plus one extra box. This is to ensure that you have enough if your guest list runs over or if some of the candles in the box look less than perfect.

Floating Candle Centerpieces

Once you have the candles and any floating candle holders that you need, go to the dollar store or the craft store and find some floating candle bowls for all of them. Glass fish bowls are the best because they are big enough to include shells or flowers in along with your candles and still have room to float. If want to include seashells or river rocks, perhaps even marbles, pick them up here. Often times you can get a discount if you buy a bunch of them.

If you want to use flowers in your floating candle centerpieces, there are two ways that you can do this that will not look over done and tacky. The most inexpensive way is to use flower petals in your glass bowls. five or six is more than enough to cover the bottom of the bowl and then with the white floating candles on top you have a stunning centerpiece that people will be sure to talk about for days to come. If you want to use whole flowers, first you must make sure that your bowl is going to be big enough. A vase is more preferable because you can add more water so your candle doesn’t touch the flower and ruin the petals. Fill the bottom of the vase with rocks, marbles or even sand so that when you add the flower, it will be weighted to the bottom and won’t move around. Fill the vase so that the flower is completely submerged. The flower will appear under the candle as it floats around.

If you are choosing to use seashells in the bowls, be sure that you use smaller shells that do not have large, bulbous pieces so that your candle won’t stop mid float by a shell. Place them however you like in the bottom of the bowl and fill the bowl until the shells are completely submerged. Then place the candle on top of the water and let it float around. Once it is lit, it will have a nice luminescence to it that will reflect of the water making the shells look bigger and more beautiful. If you want to add a more tropical look to the floating candle centerpiece, try adding a drop or two of a bright blue food coloring. You can get these at most grocery stores or craft stores. This will make your water look like you scooped it right out of Hanauma Bay.

Lastly be sure to experiment with your floating centerpiece ideas . You may think of something that you have never seen done before. Be sure to check the internet and maybe even the craft stores for some ideas on how to create your own wonderful centerpieces using floating candles and other simple objects.

Red Wedding Centerpieces

For couples who have chosen red as the primary color for their special day, red wedding centerpieces can really help centralize the theme. There are many different ways to incorporate this idea into your own wedding depending upon your own personal tastes and wants. Here is a look at some of the different ideas one can consider when they are thinking about doing their centerpieces.

The first option when considering red as your centerpiece color is to go with a floral centerpiece. One obvious choice is of course the red rose. It is symbolic and perfect for a wedding day. A beautiful red centerpiece that is both elegant and inexpensive would be to get a lovely tall vase and put three red roses in it. There are special touches one could add such as a simple ribbon or a few red rose petals surrounding the vase. Another choice for those considering using red flowers is the tulip. The tulip is very popular because it can give a fun, modern twist. Tulips are very popular in weddings because they are so readily available and they do not have any thorns so you do not have to worry about pricking your finger when handling them.

Red Wedding CenterpiecesAnother popular choice among red centerpieces for weddings includes the use of red accented candles. Candles are an excellent choice because there are so many ways one can use them. For a simple look one can use a number of plain red pillar candles. One look that is becoming increasingly popular is with the use of floating candles. These candles are specially made to float in water. The overall look is very intimate and beautiful. To add an extra touch to this you could add some small red stones to the bowl of water to really bring out the red candles and add that extra special touch.

For easy centerpieces one could purchase small red satin pillows and place them as centerpieces. By simply adding a small picture of the couple or a card with their names on it you really personalize this look. Another great option for those who are short on time include small red decorative boxes with some type of flowers or flower petals. This is a great choice because you can use real or silk flowers and you can incorporate other colors if you wish.

As you can see there are so many unique choices for red wedding centerpieces, all of which can be made to look absolutely beautiful for you and your new spouse’s big day.

Unique Wedding Centerpieces

For most people, they think that their wedding centerpieces have to be flowers. That may have been true when your parents got married but that isn’t the case anymore. Unique wedding centerpieces are becoming more and more common as wedding themes become more interesting. Here are a few unique and cheap wedding centerpieces to consider when you start planning your wedding.

Candy centerpieces can be a very beautiful if you don’t over do it or make it very noticeable. Using rock candy can make very unique centerpieces and can be tailored to any color that you want them. Be sure to make them in advance as they take a couple of weeks to form.

Unique Wedding CenterpiecesIf you are wanting a very beautiful, elegant look, then you could use floating candles in little glass bowls filled with seashells or marbles. Something that matches your theme but doesn’t take over the entire table. If you fear having the water spill all over your linens, then you can use regular candles as well.

Depending on the type of flowers you are using, a unique centerpiece can just be the type of flowers that you are using. If you are having a more beach themed wedding, than having a tropical flower like a Birds of Paradise is a very different idea that is not seen everyday.

One idea that is very unique that not many people have done is using pictures of the couple either from when they were younger or since they have been together. Lay out photos of the couple on each table and everyone gets to take one home. A nice frame, no matter the situation is always nice.

If you are having a fall wedding, a unique wedding centerpiece idea is to use fall colored leaves and fruits. You can get both inexpensively at the dollar store or a local craft store. Or you can even have fresh fruit centerpieces depending on the fruit that you are planning on using. Apples are a great, lasting fruit and then your guests can eat them later if they feel so inclined.

If you are in an area that it is not too hot or humid then some very unique wedding centerpieces you could create are chocolate centerpieces. They are fairly inexpensive and if you have even the most remote amount of artistic ability, this is a centerpiece that you can easily do yourself. You can make a simple monogram or a little design for each table. You can also do this in royal icing if you want something that will stand up to any kind of weather. If you are using either chocolate or royal icing however, be careful of the fact that it will and can break easily.

Wedding Centerpieces on a Budget

Many cost conscious couples decide to create wedding centerpieces on a budget.  Weddings have the reputation of being very expensive. A thrifty bride and groom can cut costs on a number of traditionally expensive decorations, by making the decorations themselves. Shopping around and looking for the best deals can also be a great money saver. The money saved from cutting costs can be put towards a honeymoon or savings for the newlyweds.

The good news is cheap wedding centerpieces can be just as beautiful as the more expensive centerpieces. There are a number of different options a couple can choose from. Purchasing close out or clearance centerpieces can be very inexpensive. The trick is making sure there are enough centerpieces, and that they will match the wedding decor. Most likely, you will not be able to purchase anymore or have them custom colored if they are on the clearance rack. Buying centerpieces in bulk can also save you money. If you know somebody else who is getting married you can sell them the centerpieces you do not need.

Wedding CenterpiecesAnother easy way to save is by having the budget centerpieces made by friends and family members. Dollar stores are a great option for anybody who needs to design wedding centerpieces on a budget. Dollar stores have a ton of things like candles, candle holders, flowers, and confetti that can be made into gorgeous centerpieces. Glass bowls can be used to hold floating candles and most will never be able to tell where they came from.  The best part about purchasing decorations from a dollar store, is that most of the time, there are huge quantities available. They also carry a number of different colors of candles and ribbons that can be used as centerpieces.

Themed wedding receptions may include props that can be found for free. If you live near the ocean and are planning a beach wedding theme, the decorations are all over the beach. Centerpieces can include some beautiful shells, driftwood and rocks. A large pillar candle surrounded by seashells makes a stunning centerpiece for any beach wedding.

Choosing wedding centerpieces on a budget does not have to leave you with limited choices. There are a number of different centerpieces that can be created for next to nothing. Use your imagination and ask around, be resourceful. Planning a wedding is not easy, but it can be done on a budget.

Simple Wedding Centerpieces

Making wedding centerpieces can be a fun, yet tedious chore. That is why it is often best to keep wedding centerpieces simple. While simple wedding centerpieces may be ideal, keep in mind however that simple does not necessarily mean cheap.

Like most couples, you probably want everything to be perfect on your wedding day. While there are many things that couples agonize over, most people agree that centerpieces are an important part to any wedding. After all, your guests will be eyeing your centerpieces throughout dinner and afterward.

Simple Wedding CenterpiecesTo get started with ideas for simple centerpieces, think of things that will be easy to do on your own, especially if you have a lot of centerpieces to make. A simple, yet elegant centerpiece you can make consists of using fresh flowers and a vase. Talk to your florist to find out which flowers are available.

You can then add your fresh flowers to any style of vase. If you want to add more to your vase, opt for pebbles or stones to go on the bottom of your vase. Or, choose to put several different flowers in your vase to spruce it up a bit. Whatever you choose, this is a simple idea that can be done quickly for beautiful fresh flower centerpieces.

Another idea for simple wedding centerpieces involves using tea lights or votive candles. Tea lights are less expensive than votives and can be purchased in bulk, but their burn time is not quite as long. Using these candles can jazz up any wedding centerpiece however. Tea lights can be placed inside wine glasses and votive candles can be placed in small vases. For added appeal, place flower petals around the glass. You can designate a few people to light the candles as guests arrive at the reception.

If you like the idea of using candles in your wedding centerpieces, opt to use floating candles for your tables. Floating candles are a bit more unique, yet have the same beautiful appeal. Purchase glass bowls and fill them with water. Then add the floating candles and sprinkle the water with rose petals if you wish. Once again, designate a few people to light the candles beforehand.

If you want to steer away from traditional flowers and candles, you can choose to use fruit or chocolates in your centerpieces. Simply purchase elegant bowls or serving platters to be placed on the tables and fill them with assorted fruits or chocolates. Stick to fruits that you can work with the night before, such as dipping strawberries in chocolate sauce.

Lastly, you can use colored stones in your simple wedding centerpieces. The stones will bring in the colors and elegance of your wedding and will sparkle under the light. Use the stones to fill champagne or margarita glasses, or use them in stylish vases or glass bowls.

Beach Wedding Centerpieces

At my beach themed wedding, I had the most beautiful beach wedding centerpieces that were the cheapest and easiest centerpieces ever. I went to the dollar store and bought enough shallow glass bowls for all of my tables, two for tables that were longer. They had little bags of seashells in their arts and crafts section and I picked up some of those too. I had the idea that I wanted to have some kind of lighting that was romantic but not too distracting so I got some floating candles just to see what I could do. The outcome was amazing!

I filled the bottom of the glass bowls with the seashells and then filled them with water almost to the very top so the candles wouldn’t touch the seashells and had room to float around. When you drop the candle in there and light them it is absolutely gorgeous! If you want to prolong the life of your candles, don’t light them. Once they have burned for a while it soon just becomes a big blob of melted candle wax floating on the water.

Beach Wedding Centerpiece

A couple other ideas that I tried were using sand dollars and starfish as well, depending on the season though, they can be kind of hard to find. Many specialty shops sell them but they are kind of pricey. During the summer time, beach themed weddings are very popular and beach centerpieces are easy to come by on the internet. Flip Flop picture frames of the couple are very popular.

If you plan on ordering tropical flowers for your beach wedding centerpieces, be advised that they are not usually carried in-stock in the United States because we do not have the right climate in most places here. They are very costly and will have to be picked up close to the time that you plan on using them because they will wilt very fast. Another alternative you could use if you want flowers it to use silk blossoms but they do not have the same look and are not as attractive as the real flower itself.

Candle Wedding Centerpieces

Centerpieces set the scene for weddings and candle wedding centerpieces are especially beautiful. The low light from candles adds an air of romance. There are hundreds of ways to arrange candle centerpieces to match any specific wedding theme. Tall tapers, small votives, pillars, tealights, and floating candles all have places at different weddings. It’s difficult to find a more versatile decoration for a wedding.

Small glass jars with floating candles can be decorated with colorful ribbons. Lengthy hurricane vases filled with water can hold flowers or other theme-oriented items below the water level. Wide bowls accommodate a couple floating candles.

Candle Wedding CenterpiecesVotive candles work well in small holders, which can be matched to holidays or themes. They can then be surrounded by another decoration, such as slices of wood or candy. Votives burn well over several hours and are contained by the holders.

Tapers in candlesticks provide a different look but may drip wax if left burning too long. Keep it quarantined with tall hurricane vases. Anything that is high may block the view, but it will be less than arranged flowers.

Pillars are easily surrounded by decorations or set in combination in the middle of the table. A stand or wide plate makes a nice base to tie into the wedding colors. Pillars are a long-lasting choice that burns well over time.

Tealights as candle centerpieces are easily shown off in small holders and even when combined take very little space on the table. They work well in groups, but they do not last as long as other candle choices.

Candles or holders work well placed on mirrors. The reflection adds to the ambiance of the occasion. The candle holders can also be personalized with the names of the bride and groom and the date of the wedding.

For many candle wedding centerpieces, the candles are traditionally white, but they can also be colored to match the wedding theme. Give guests a fun favor to remember the wedding and let them take the centerpieces home; it can be marked with tape underneath a chair for a lucky guest. Another fun treat for guests is to sprinkle candy around the center of the table like individually wrapped chocolates or candy corn.
